RYAN GIGGS says Roy Hodgson’s decision to freeze Rio Ferdinand out of the England team is great news for Manchester United.
Centre-half Rio, 34, was a colossus at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
Giggs said: “England’s loss is United’s gain. He’s been playing like that all season.
“His experience, leadership skills and organisation were needed against Madrid with two young players like Jonny Evans and Rafael around him.
“He’s just a top player. He has proved that again and again and he’s proved that against Real.”
